Last night was our first official night with Middle school and High school meeting on the same night. We are playing around with it this summer to see what the fall might look like. Here are a few reasons we are doing this:
1. High school used to meet on Sunday night. That means they would go to big church with their family on Saturday night or Sunday morning (HUGE value we have in families going to church together) and then they come right back a few hours later to our high school night.
2. Big church has a Sunday night service and potentially more than one Sunday night service in the future. We want to make sure we are being team players and make room for that to grow.
3. We value the idea of inter generational ministry in a big way. A senior is probably not going to be real excited about hanging out with a 6th grader EVERY week, but having that option available is really important for us. What would it look like for a 6th grade boys small group to join an 11th grade boys small group every once in awhile?!?!
4. Being all on Wednesday night it allows us to stream line our staff quite a bit. Rather than having to have separate production, creative arts, and pastoral staff for both Middle school and High school we can actually join forces. This will save money but also allow us to let different staff positions be a little more focused rather than having a wide job description.
Obviously, there are a few relational and administration hurdles to figure out. But at this point we have a pretty good start. Sometimes starting is the hardest part.
Here we go!
