la·ment
[luh-ment] –verb (used with object)
1. | to feel or express sorrow or regret for: |
I read Psalm 69 yesterday, which is a lament Psalm. Many of the Psalms fall into this "lament" category in that they are poems or songs crying out, mourning, regretting or just being sorrowful. Here a couple of lines of Psalm 69:
Save me, O God,
For the waters have come up to my neck.
I am worn out calling for help;
my throat is parched.
I think that is right where Rachel and I feel like we are right now. Our house still hasn't sold and we are beginning to feel pretty frantic, like the waters have come up to our necks and our throats are parched from crying out for help.
I am hopeful, because I know on the other side of these laments of David are some beautiful Psalms of praise and thanksgiving. Here are a couple of lines from Psalm 150:
Praise him for his acts of power;
Praise him for his surpassing greatness
That is the tension we are trying to live in right now. Free to lament and cry out and free to be hopeful of his acts of power and surpassing greatness.
